Why I Love Internet Work
In order to explain to you how internet work has changed my life, I have a confession to make. I’m homeless, sort of. Over three years ago I sold my house, left what you might consider to be a traditional American life and started traveling the world. My children had moved out and moved on and my husband and I sat in an empty house with the “now what” look on our faces. We took action, big action and sold everything, bought really good luggage and set off to Asia.
Fast Forward Three Years Later
I’ve been around the world twice, enjoyed the culture, food and hospitality of over 20 countries. I really enjoy travel so this style of life suits me and the opportunity came at a time in my life when I could just pick up and leave. My husband also does internet work and he had no trouble adapting his work style to perpetual travel. It’s not for everyone. Homey comforts are often missing, packing up, unpacking and trip planning can actually be tiresome. Not every county has the internet set up that I require for my writing. Phone calls can be challenging in certain time zones. Many times you are half a world away from the people you wish to see. Overall though, the digital nomad lifestyle has been wonderful and I truly wouldn’t change a day. (Well, maybe a few days in China after a passport was stolen.)
You Can Change Your Day With Internet Work
The key to happiness is engineering your life so that you wake up each day happy to work, happy where you are and just plain happy to be. If I had a street corner, a soapbox and a megaphone I would tell everyone I to get internet work. I actually do tell people this and they follow me up to the point where they have to quit their secure job. With content writing you don’t have to quit your secure job. You can do both until you’re satisfied you can support yourself and your family with your writing. You don’t need to travel the world like I do, you just need the option to do it. Choices make our lives better. Would you like to be able to stay at home and work? Do you want to live on a tropical island (with internet) and earn money? Internet work gives you the option to do your work wherever you choose.
The world economy is in a downward spiral. I’ve witnessed this first hand in my travels. Not every one has the opportunity to start writing web content for a living or the ability to earn some extra cash online doing internet work. I feel privileged to be able to work this way. Make no mistake though, I engineered my life to do internet work and I don’t feel as though I will ever have to go back to a more traditional job. The trend these days is work from home. I wrote the book The Moonlighter’s Guide To Online Writing For Immediate Income because over the last three years I’ve had dozens of people say, ‘I want your life.’ They probably don’t really want my life. They just want that option. Now you can have it too.
